Is It Permissible To Say Ya Ali Madad or Ya Ghawth al Madad?

Question: Is it permissible to say Ya Ali Madad, Ya Ghawth al madad or Ya Muhammad al Madad and what should ones intentions be when saying it if it is permissible?

Answer:

الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب

It is allowed with some conditions:

1. The caller must intend that these pious people can listen and help with the power given to them by Allah and not with their own.

It is proved from the Hadith which is narrated by  Imam Bazzar from Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهم

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When your animal is lost, say these words اعينوانى يا عبادا لله  (oh the servants of Allah, Help me)

Imam Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani stated in the book Amali that this Hadith is authenic.

This Hadith is also narrated by Imam Tabarani, Imam Abu Ya’la and Imam Ibn Saniyy

In Tabarani Saghir, there is a Hadith that supports this in which one Sahabi migrated from Makkah and when he was surrounded by the Kuffar, he called upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asking for help. At that time the Prophet ﷺ was making ablution in Makkah and replied to him with لبیک  لبیک  لبیک نُصرتَ نُصرتَ نُصرتَ

Therefore calling upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or any friend of Allah (Awliya) is permissible with the condition that is mentioned.
